Behind the door lock striker plate on the 68B, there seems to be a sheet metal clip. The clip is shown in the attached photo
What is the function of this clip ? Could anyone please post a drawing or detailed photo with dimensions that will allow reproduction of the clip ? What is the original finish ? (Cad, chrome, body color etc.) Is this part also found on other body styles ? (Could I scavenge some from a fordor ?) Or, of course, does anyone have a couple of spare clips to sell me ? |

I think Tom Moniz of the Cabby Club has offered such things.

My 68A clip is about 1" tall and 1" deep, but with concave curved surface and the nailing tabs stick out a bit further, about 1/4"-5/16". I may have some better photos, but no access now. Mine appeared to be body color.

Purpose seems to be just to cover the wood for a finished look. I agree with body color.

If anyone has a loose clip it would be perfect to have a profile photo of the clip with a tape measure by its side. |

I have one still on the original post from a 68-B. The metal material is 32.5mm high on the vertical. The back side (faces inside of car) that can't be seen in Russ's picture is 24.5mm deep. I'll refer to this section as the "inside edge" later.
The door jam side is a little more complicated but I'll give it a go. Working from left to right in Russ's picture, the cut-out between the nails is 7mm by 14mm. The step from the cut-out to the curved area is 5mm deep. Now for the curved area. It looks to me to be more of a 1/4 oval shape rather than a 1/4 circle. The "step" mentioned before is parallel to the inside edge. Measuring at 90 degrees relative to the step and inside edge is 23mm. I'll try and get some pictures up when it is daylight. Rich

I believe that these are the same as on all Briggs straight windshield fordors. I have a friend who was able to fabricate one out of stainless. Although not original, I had mine chromed along with the door latches similar to some of the larger and more expensive cars of the era - to me they look good against a dark body color o originally though, they should probably have been the main body color. Regardless, the pieces you are referring to I believe are the same as on other Briggs straight windshield cars. Good Luck.
