i'm going to put a set of stock 59 series heads on a 59ab block with an L100 cam in it, will the heads need to be cut using this cam. At the present time it is not possible for me to turn the engine over to use the aluminum ball method of checking.

YES!! the net lift of the L-100 is .360 and it's wise to have .050" clearance. I put this in a angle fixture and cut the clearance at a 5 degree angle. That way you don't remove much material. Any shop with a Bpt milling machine can do it. I use an i5/8 shell mill.
I usually mill the heads for .050" piston clearance before I do this. Might as well do it right. |

ole ron is right, but i really suggest you get the engine where you can turn it over, put a head on with out a head gasket, turn engine over two full turns, if the head doesnt lift your fine, the head gasket is around 0.50", if it rises use a feeler gauge to see how much the head lifted, that is the mimimun depth of the fly cutdont guess, do it right or you will be sorry if you bend a valve or two, turn engine over

No, you will not have to flycut if the heads are factory stock.
