Default Like Father, Like Son, Like Grandson

Today the three of us had an opportunity to hang out at the local airport. The airplane is a 1946 Aeronca Champ made in Middletown, Ohio. I have owned it for about 25 years and gave it to my son if he would restore it. It is almost done. That is the original color scheme. 65 horsepower, no electrics. Cruise is about 83 mph, straight and level.

It was a good day..

Nice lineup.

I know the barn has a narrow focus, but barners sharing their more diverse stuff is good.

Plane looks fun, Poncho looks classy.

Looks like your Son is doing a great job.

Mart.

Mart,
Thank you. It would indeed be a dull world if we all liked the same thing. I am sure many on this forum have other hobbies too. In 1990 a friend and I flew my airplane to the Grand Canyon and back. What a great trip that was!

The collection looks great, and nice to hear that generations to come are following in the family footsteps of interest and hobbies.... Good for you Shadetree, you must be proud, that is one beautiful plane.

Nice plane!
I learned to fly in a 46 Champ. My instructor was Charlie McAllister of McAllister Flying Service, established in 1926, His license was signed by Orville Wright. The FAA presented him with a Plaque with a brass replica of his license. Our local airport is named after him. Brings back a lot of memories.

Thanks for the memories. I can remember flying Champs and J3 Cubs back in the '50's. Coincidentally my car at the time was my other '48 Ford Sedan Coupe, which was totaled in '58 in a head on accident.

Thanks everyone for the positive responses and to show that I am not the only one that loves old cars and airplanes.

I had a first today. My 16 year old grandson drove the `35 Ford for the first time. After showing him the shift pattern we drove down the taxi-way. He looked over at me with a big grin and said "I see why you love this old car Pop, it's fun to drive." He also taxied the airplane for he first time. Like father, like son, like grandson...
