Default Battery Cable

Where's the best place to buy authentic battery cable by the foot?

One source I know of is Narragansett Reproductions. They sell "00" gauge wire with a covering of black braided cotton for 6V systems. Cost: $9 a foot.

I'll admit... I'm buying this wire to replace some big ugly red plastic wire that's hooked to a big ugly disconnect switch under my floorboard. I'm reluctantly keeping the switch since I've actually used it a few times. But I want authentic wire to the starter.

Thanks in advance!

I think that Sacramento Vintage Ford has the cable you are looking for.

Local junk yards if they still have some old 6 volt cars or trucks in the yard would be one source.

Ray,

Checkout the cables that Hensley Battery and Electronics has. They make them to your length specs from multi-strand welding cable and crimp the connectors. Price is reasonalble I thought.

They might have the cloth covered cable that you need.

www.hensleybattery.com

branches in CO , WY and UT.

There is one in Co Springs, CO

this site is listed on some model T posts as making cloth covered battery cables to your length
http://www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com/index.php

I made some cables for my Citroen out of salvaged Mercedes cables, a 450,380,560 SL convertable model has a long cable from the trunk to the engine, it has a cloth like outer covering and is a good heavy wire, also a mid 90s Sclass diesel has a nice hunk going from the right footwell across to the starter that has acloth covering over silicone rubber insulation ---if you find one of these S class cars from 92-98 there is a very heavy cable from the trunk to the right footwell that isn't too hard to remove--13 feet long, over 7 lbs of copper ---2 of these will make a very good set of jumper cables--probably 0 or 00 gauge ---later ones are defintly plastic covered
