I suspect you would need to inhale mothball fumes for a very, very long time to have even a small chance of getting cancer. I use moth balls to repel mice and moths in my car. I only have the mothball in the car when I am not in the car. What I did to minimize the vaporazation of the mothballs is to take a covered store bought pie pan (aluminum) with a plastic top and drill 12 or so 1/4" holes in the plastic top to let only a small amount of mothball fumes out. Since mice and moths can smell much better than humans, that should be enough to repel the critters. I can smell the mothballs in the pie plate, but the vapors in not very strong. The mothballs last for over a year since they are not out in the free air. This works for me.

I keep mothballs in my cars and spread them around the garage. It sure works to keep out the mice, but a few weeks ago I found 2 moths clinging to the headliner of my Studebaker. I'm not sure how they even got in, but at least I killed them both and haven't seen any more. Back in the early 60's I could buy those sticky fly strips that you pull out of a small paper roll. They worked great and I think they only cost a nickel. Wonder if they can still be bought?

Old folks use to believe in cedar chests & cedar lined closets to repel moths.

I went to Wal-Mart after hearing on a Model A Forum about different moth balls with a natural Cedar Aroma .

Asked this beautiful young Wal-Mart sales person if she had cedar flavored moth balls -- she showed me where they were next to the ironing boards, & said she just loved the Cedar Aroma.

I took out the old public toilet smelling moth balls & replaced them with the new Cedar Aroma moth balls placed in a large salt shaker.

Never had a moth problem at any time.

I have hundreds of moths in my garage at night flying around lights; but they are kept out of my Model A mainly because I keep windows rolled up & the windshield closed.

Often heard moths lay eggs in wool, & when the eggs hatch, the young moths eat holes in the wool to survive.

Have "fresh" "D-Con" rat/mice pellets in my garage for rodents, but after using same for 5 years in a row, appears no pellets missing in about 1-1/2 years.

Hope this helps.

I used the scented clothes dryer sheets and spread them around inside my closed cars. Seems to work well and the car smells good.

What wrong with moths getting cancer?

I don't see any studies that say it is for humans. Besides how many of us used or had parents that used them and we all don't have cancer.
