Default crank handle guide

I am going to remove the engine in my '31 and wonder if its OK to remove the front spring bolts and the crank guide for more clearance for the engine pulley. The car is sitting on the ground.

Not real sure what/why you are asking but I would assume it is OK. The crank bearing is usually not in the way during routine R&R if the engine. Is there something specific you are doing?

It looks like the engine won't have to tilt up as much if the guide is removed. I don't want the firewall to get scratched.

" I don't want the firewall to get scratched."

I hope you do not have any frame sag at the rear motor mount. As you know that puts the head very close to the firewall when you are installing or removing the engine. I have taped cardboard to the firewall for a little extra insurance when R&Ring an engine.

Hi Art,

The fire wall sounds like it has a perfect painted finish -- an old quilt, an old blanket folded in four, or some other similar protection securely fastened would help to prevent fire wall scratches.

Hope this helps.
