Default Delco Radio - late '30s

watching "Strange Angel" series on Amazon.

episode #1 @ 42:44 shows these guys cruising in a late '30s pickup. it has 'barrelnose' style elements but i don't think it's a '37. anyway, they are tuning a radio in the cab. it says Delco on it and appears to be football shaped, with a long stalk coming from the top right which is being used to fine tune the broadcast or volume. i think it's mounted to the steering column, where in 20 years, will be mounted a tachometer!

anyone know more about this? thanks

Probably an aftermarket unit. I seem to remember seeing them as a kid.

thanks.

i think that's so slick.

edit: initially i thought the radio mounted centered over the steering column, but seeing the photo leads me to believe it mounts on the column side. so i guess that is the floor shift model.

maybe technology is great, but i pine for the style of the old.

Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company
I worked for Delco during the time it was AC-Delco…… AC standing for Albert Champion.
That’s a cool radio.

judging by the size of the speaker, there wasn't much room for the passenger's feet.

Ford gravitated toward Zenith and Philco but aftermarket stuff was used a lot when kids wanted a radio in their ride.
