Managed to remove column drops, drilled out pins, removed key cylinder, now how do I complete disassembly (remove On/Off switch)?
By the way I tried the "weld-a-nut-to-it" method to remove bolt, kept breaking off the nut. Then I tried: I drill a series of 1/16 holes across the face of the pinch bolt. A little sideways action with a drill will produce a slot. Broke two screw drivers. Got out the torch, get it red and this time the bolt came out and no broken screw driver. Now pull out the pin with the slight taper on the end on the back side. You can secure it with vise-grip pliers and then pry up from side to side until it lifts out. You will note that it has serrations on the end where it inserts into the center section. Then the center section can be slid off the on/off lever and it will all come apart. Watch out for a tiny flat spring in the bore of the lever; it is easy to overlook and even easier to lose.

Dave is correct in how to remove the pin. If you are not sending the lever out for plating I'm not sure why you want to take it so completely apart. If everything works freely you can just remove the two rivits holding the on/off plate, clean and paint the drop and replace the plate and re-assemble everything.

David, I am confused now. Do you suggest removing the pin on the back of the on-off lever? I thought they were in there to stay.
I remove the collar above the on-off lever and slide the plunger down into the tube bore. I have not noticed the little spring. Is it in the on-off lever bore? HELP! |

Andy, Dave is right.You must remove that pin on the back of the lever.Then the entire assy will come out the top.

When doing disassembly it is important to preserve the original “On/Off” plate. Repops are not worth s**t. I learned from experience to very carefully grind the heads off the brass pins that hold the plate in place. After the plate is removed it is easy to drill out the rest of the brass pins. The pins are easy to replace, an original “On/Off” plate not so easy

Just found out that the pin and lever do not remove .They are a unit.I have only done 32's so thought it was the same.On the 3rd pic which is taken from the top there is a collar that is pressed onto the round shaft or bolt.That collar has to come out .Lube it well and clamp drop in a vise.Then gently tap on the shaft or bolt and the collar will rise up and fall off as shaft moves downward.It is serrated inside. The on - off tab needs to be removed.Then the lever assy and pin can be removed from the rear after it clears the shaft.Hope that is understandable.PM me if its not clear with your phone number.
