I am going to be replacing the door on my CCPU this spring and I took the window regulator out of the old door and it needs to be rebuilt. I took it apart and the gear has 8 teeth. The rebuild kits ask for whether it is a 5 or 6 tooth?? It is a 29 3 bolt design regulator and it is the original to the door. Why no 8 tooth for the rebuild kits? Will a 5 or 6 tooth work with my regulator? Any help is appreciated.

No. I tried that once and even if you get the gear installed, the crank will bind and make a horrible racheting noise.
The new 5 & 6 tooth gears are likely imported. ... perhaps from a factory full of very yung children who can only count to five. Last edited by Craig Lewis; 01-31-2012 at 12:13 PM. |

Stay with original if you can. I haven't used the kits; I have Chinese-made repros in my coupe and they work well enough but I think they used garage door springs in them. They are HARD to roll up!
Try Bert's for an original. They're good people and their prices are fair.

I had a similar problem with the regulators in my tudor. I ended up buying a set from brattons instead of rebuilding the original. The part that I could not get was the locking spring, which forced my hand into buying replacements. Being new, they work well, and are light to use in both directions, and they did not hurt the hip pocket either.

Whatever you do, stay away from the ones that might have a Vintique label on them. The ones I got from Snyders work just fine as well.

Years ago I needed a drivers w-reg for a 29 Essex.I looked in an old Hollender interchange manual & found that one from an A sedan was the same.I got one from a R R door that doesnt see much use & it worked fine on drivers door.Another time I needed a D S reg for a 32 chev coupe (best chev I ever had) I couldnt find one,so I took a w-reg from a 37 chev & adapted it to fit.I cut out the stripped section of the quadrant & used part of the quadrant from the 37 I had to alter the radius on the new piece to match the old gear and weld it back together. It worked well.

Thanks Don, I buy almost all my parts from Snyders because they are close and I usually get them in two days so I'll go ahead and get one from them.
