Default Spider Repellent

any suggestions on homemade spider repellent? From time-to-time notice webs in the wheel spokes ... since my wheels are one of the dozens of 'blacks' .... have noticed a few 'souvenir droppings' (powdery white/gray) on the lower rim (where the spokes attach) which i can only assume are residue of some tasty morsel enjoyed in the recent past. They seem to acidic as they are effecting the paint itself if i don't get to them quickly.

sounds like black widow spiders
are the webs very strong?
just look above the droppings to find the culprit
i use ortho "Home Defense" to combat them(its water based)
i havnt found anything that keeps them away ,as as soon as its dried ,the spiders walking on tippy toes ,just walk over it
and then they spend almost all the time on their webs

Charles,
Yes..home defense and I use moth balls..naphta(?)..drives everything out!
SAFETY TIP:
BTW- anyone know what a 'brown recluse' spider is? Well, they like to frequent old dark stored things...like cars! Two guys that I know personally were bitten and near died from the bites..one in a barn, one in a car. And, black widows, although less lethal, are more numerous and like the same habitat. Worth considering when hopping into a long stored vehicle like most Model As are !

I had spider problems also. Now I run the car for 10 minutes every month with all of the garage doors closed. Carbon Monoxide seems to kill any creepy thing, just hold your breath when you rush in to cut the engine post fumigation!

Ha, I have done that too. Not sure if it works but I did it for mice and also put out poison. Maybe together they work.

I had the same problem, spiders inside, outside and under my A. My garage was full of spiders as well as my house (log cabin). I know you asked for a homemade repellent, but I never had much luck with anything until I started using a product called: Bifen I/T. This product is safe to use outside and inside a dwelling or garage.

I have used it for two years and very seldom, if ever, see a spider or bug. I no longer have spider webs under the eves, between the logs, under the boat dock, in the boat, in the garage or on the A.

I have no interest or do not represent this company in any way but I know an excellent product when I find one. Many of my friends and neighbors both in Iowa and in Arizona have now used this product and are very pleased with the results.

As I said, I know you asked for a homemade remedy but if you can't find one you might be interested in this product. The companies web site is: www.doyourownpestcontrol.com 800 476-3368

Glad we live in rainy old Oregon. Don't seem to have much of a problem with spiders but we do have a problem on warming days with elm beetles. They gather on the sunny side of a building, try to get inside windows and while there, crap all over everything.

The room foggers work pretty well in riding a garage of spiders.

When I painted in a sealed basement using epoxy paint it seemed to kill all spiders and bugs and none showed up for months.

I don't really pay attention at home as I have plenty of centipedes to go around, they seem to take care of spiders.

Moth balls like someone above said- this keeps all critters away, it may work on spiders.

A good item for insects is Vinegar- initially the vinegar repells them where it's sprayed- the smell to us disapated- but it still lingers and kills scents in the area- and insects when they leave an area that is sprayed with vinegar- can't find there way back. Plus Insects breath threw thier legs-

Spiders are arachnids totally different than insects- so I'm not sure what would be best to use.

My father would use phels natha soap shavings in a sprayer with warm water- shake/mix it up then spray around stuff in the barn and that would keep undesirables out.
