Default F1 glove box door

Hi folks

I'm sure someone has devised a simple solution.

The glove box door on my 52 f1 is always open about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I'm thinking of using a magnet that screws into the door or the dash to keep it closed. Note: I'm not sure if a small magnet will be strong enough to keep it shut.

Anyone else experience this and have another solution?

Thanks

My original 48 F2 is the same way. I was looking at this AM thinking about how to fix. So I will be watching for suggestions too.

Do you have the rubber bumpers in the dash? Also the 2 spring clips could be weak after all these years. I replaced mine with NOS ones I found. It stays tight now.

I only have a clip on one side. Are there suppose to be one on each arm? When I looked at c&g diagram it shows only one

My original 48 only had one and it was 100 % original.

Ok I was able to get it almost perfect. My truck only has one arm with a spring.

I took the two screws out of the bracket with the spring (only one side) and placed a washer under the bracket (not the screw head). Put the two screws back and it closes much tighter now.

I used a spare wiring retaining clip, the ones that clip the wires to the frame rails on trucks, and bent it carefully & cut one leg off. The curve in the clip that used to hold the wires makes a nice 'catch' for the door to grab the edge of the opening. Attached under one of the handle screws. Spring steel. But my truck (1940) isn't clean & shiny, so this may not be desirable for those vehicles that are. But it works great.

Another solution would be to replace the glovebox door with one that has the optional glovebox lock. They are available; maybe a little more expensive fix than you anticipated.
I have a couple if you are interested. Send PM.

As to magnets, I bought some 3/8" round Niodium(?) magnets off eBay for an unrelated purpose. I'm sure a couple those suckers would hold any glove door shut. (They had larger sizes, too! )

I put a clock in the glove box door of my 41 pickup. That eliminated the two tension springs that held the door closed. I made an "L" shaped bracket that mounted up in top of the opening of the glove box. I then went to the "Michaels" craft store and got four round 1/2" magnets( they come four to package). I used two and stacked one on top of the other and put them on the glove box door. They stick to the "L" bracket with plenty of holding power.
