I have read several articles on painting the Model A as far as correct colors, striping, etc. Even read one on how the car came down the assembly line and what was painted at each stop, starting with the partial assembly, wash down, primer, interior paint then exterior color. Nothing seems to be mentioned about the underside of the floor. Was the floor painted? Was it body color, black or just left plain steel? Just wondering.

![]() To paraphrase, it says they have been found most often either is raw metal or red oxide primer. Both club's position in adjudication is in the effort of preservation they can be painted in body color. As Tom mentioned, the wooden silled cars used a black wood preservative whereas the pans were often found just as mentioned above and there would have been slight overspray of the body color(s) onto the wood, ...however in all instances, Ford disapproved of wasteing paint on areas unseen such as the bottom-side of the body. Does this help?? . |
