Default G28T German engine.

I have a G28T engine made in 1958 in Germany under licence to Ford. I think I can hear one of the rods tapping. These engines are full pressure oiled with insert bearings. Does anyone know of a source for replacment inserts? These engines are plentyful in europe so there must be parts somewhere.

Take a sample bearing to your local, friendly, engine builder. He may be able to measure it and find one that will work? Also take the crank measurement and a rod if you can. Normally the bearings in an inserted engine will either be good or really bad, no ticking for any length of time. Those are nice engines.

have 3 of these engines & certainly not plentiful here, no known supply of inserts avalible to my knowledge, you may need to have them remetaled, One engine has had crank built up & vehc inserts fitted. one could no doubt have them made, they are quiet thick , Have study many bearing books & only a 80,s pinto came close, If you happen to come up with anything please advise here, I keep a list of engine numbers & would be interested in having yours . about Plentiful
I worked as a car-mechanic, studied mechanical engineering and
grew 53 till i saw my first G28T.
This G28T-engine stuck in the awesome car of "Brad in Germany"
(who sadly is no longer in germany).
Those engines were built by Ford (no licence) and they were used in some thousand trucks! After the life-cycle of the trucks was over, the trucks went to the junk;
Sadly - NO G28T-engines over here.
Regards from germany
Christoph

Regarding your engine - you should act, as Jim suggested....

Ron, we encountered the same thing on our G28 and we just offset ground the crank by .125" and used inserted Model B rods with a Chrysler piston that has a higher wrist pin loction.

Ron, the engines were used in Ford Ruhr trucks and Class farm equipment. I doubt any of the trucks were imported to the U.S. The Class equipment started to be imported about 10 yrs ago so I doubt they had any G28 engines. Other farm equipment companies also used them but I don't know any brands. You might want to contact some of the MARC/MAFCA membership directory members in Germany, Sweden and Norway. There seems to be growing interest in Germany in old farm equipment. If you look at the Lanz Bulldog web site (http://www.lanzbulldog.de/) you will find links to collectors and clubs in Germany. You may want to contact a few to see if they can provide some leads for you. There is also a large Agricultural museum at the University of Stuttgart with a large collection of vintage equipment. I belive I have the name and e-mail address of the department head in charge if you would want to contact him. Good Luck in your search
