Default U-Joint rubber hose seal

There have been a few discussions bout this - substituting a rubber hose for the cork seal in the U-Joint housing.

I wish to contact the person selling these, who I think might go by 'Ol Hot Rod John' from Ohio.

Anyone have an email address or website where I can order these?

Thanks

Henry

fwiw, i purchased one of his u-joint rubber seals [he told me in a telephone conversation that "it is the same material used to seal the door on the space shuttle"! i don`t know if that`s true or not, but to me it looks a lot like a piece of neoprene tubing that you can buy at any auto parts store. i won`t be buying any more of his "space shuttle" seals.

Whether it's space-age or not is not the point. The point is that it works better than the cork seals. I got mine from him through ebay.

I took half of my "clamshell" retainer to my local autoparts store, explained to the guy what I wanted and he came out with a piece of vacuum tubing that worked just fine. I put it in in one piece. I didn't splice the ends together, but I did put the joint at the top. I guess I have a mile or so on it now, so I'll have to wait to see how it really works out.

(Reminds me of a joke: Do you know what a "Diesel Fitter" is? No, it's not at all similar to a diesel mechanic. It's the guy who works in the back of a shoe store! He's the one who comes out of the back with a box of shoes and says, "Diesel fitter!")

PS: If you really want to do this right, contact Roy Nacewicz who sells a FELT piece. It only has to seal grease and it's what the factory used originally.

bassman, i`m glad it`s working for you. my point is you could have done the same thing with a 50 cent piece of tubing... and in your case you wouldn`t have to ship it half way around the world!

If you use use a petroleum based lube in the joint it will shortly destroy a rubber seal or tube. Rubber and petroleum do not play well together.
