Default 1929 Tail Light

Lots of good info on the 28/29 tail light. I have another question regarding when they switched from the body mounted tail light to the fender mounted tail light in 1929. My 4-6-29 Business Coupe ( has the oval windows) has the fender mounted tea cup light and the holes drilled on the body for the body mounted bracket could they have run out of the body brackets after the holes were drilled and put the new fender bracket on? I have owned the car since 1964 and it seemed rather unmolested when I got it. Any feend back would be great, starting the restoration soon.

I've seen a couple cars from that time period set up the same way. The 3 body holes should have very flat slotted screws (truss head) to fill the holes. The factory must have had a number of bodies already built for the early style when the new mount came out.

Thanks Tom, Do you know if anyone is selling the flat slotted screws to fill the holes?

Bert's might have some original screws. I thought I saw some in one of the repro parts catalogs, but I just looked in Bratton's and didn't see them. Maybe A&L sells them, otherwise most hardware stores have truss head screws.

Does anyone have a picture of a coupe with the holes plugged and the tail light on the fender? Would love to see one.

I can get you a picture of my March '29 sedan with the plugs when I get to where it's stored. To muddy this up a bit, I have plugs, not screws in the rear apron holes.

That is actually quite common. If your firewall date is 4-6-29 and the car was built in California it more likely was built in late April. That should easily be into the new lights all around. The screw holes in the the rear floor sill were filled with small rubber button head plugs.
