I just bought a 1929 Briggs leatherback 4dr with 15,000 actual miles. All original like new car. The gas turn on-off valve is stuck in off position. Besides taking it off and lubing it is there any easy solution. Thanks, Bob

I think that is the easy solution. It probably needs to be reseated. You can do this with toothpaste if it's not too bad, or valve grinding compound if it's really bad.
But to your original question: you might be able to just loosen the packing nut a little bit and work it some and that might open it up for you.

This one does not have a packing nut which sort of surprised me. Bob

The 29 valve should have an external packing nut, that goes over the valve, as opposed to the later valve with the packing nut that threads into the valve. If that packing nut is missing, perhaps someone has already tried to free the valve from sticking. I would remove the valve and soak it in carburator cleaner to see if it will come free. If the car is that perfectly preserved, it should really have the correct valve.
