Seeking confirmation on the following:
8RT Flathead fitted with single carb 8BA Holley 94. The gasket between inlet manifold and carb bottom. Should it have the small hole at fron end of gasket? Or should it be without this hole? & Why? Appreciate all advice. Phil NZ |

No hole. That's for the heat riser manifold for the Stromberg carburetor. You don't want or need heat on the bottom of the Ford/Holley 94 carburetor.

There's no hole in the manifold, so there's no heat coming thru the hole. It does no harm.

They need that small hole to get vacume from both barrels to the PV. All 94 gaskets from 56 down to late 38 have this hole. Stromberg gasket has no hole there. ken ct. That hole is for vacume NOT heat.

The vacuum supply to the economizer valve is in the base of the carb on 8BA/8RT's. The hole in the gasket does nothing, but doesn't do any harm.

Is there a hole in your manifold under the hole in the gasket?

If their is a hole in the manifold you have a 35-36 intake on there. Why do you think ALL 94 carb gaskets have that hole there.ALL Stromberg gaskets have no hole. ken ct.

Well I try and keep you guys on the straight and narrow. I tell it like it is. That extra hole only appears on some of the 35-36 manifolds [not all] why I don't know.Which is for heat to the Strom. base also which DOES NOT have a hole there like the 94 carb.Their PV are mechanicly operated. That's why PV's blow or burn out when you get a backfire through the carb with 94's. ken ct. Sorry if you are confused.

I usually don't stick my nose into these stupid threads but the poor guy just asked a simple question. Most of those gaskets have that little hole, I don't know what it's there for but it don't do anything. There no exh there on those 8BA in takes. The PV gets it vacuum from a slot on the bottom carb. Someone has posted a pic. SO, don't worry about that little hole when using the late intake. Walt

First of all Ross asked if he had a hole there in his manifold which only appears on some 35-36 manifolds. He could have had a wrong intake on it. ken ct.

I wonder if your power valve (economizer valve) is too tall, and is holding the throttle section off the bowl section? Some kits come with a PV that will do that.

I have shorter PV's in the correct # 5.5 that fit and work very well. Either that or your base to middle section gasket has a break in it some where. ken ct.

He could also have the wrong gasket in there, the bigger venturies use a gasket with bigger holes in it and it wont work with the smaller venturies. Some kits come with both sizes of gaskets. The wrong one could have been used on a rebuild. ken ct. Ive seen it happen by DIYS rebuilders that don't know any better.
