Default Update broken piston thread

I posted in back in May about a broken piston in my 30 coupe.
I have installed new pistons and adjusted clearance on rods and mains.
I used a gram scale and balanced the weight of the rods and pistons which I hoped would make the engine smoother, When I first drove it after that I was kind of disappointed it was not very smooth but I kept driving it some and it kept getting better I have a about 150 miles on it now and I am amazed how nice it hums along at 45/50 mph I even have a clear sharp image in the rearvew mirrors now.
I have a Question about the rear main oil drain tube, I have read that if that tube is shortened the oil will drain back better, Is that a good idea or not.
It doesn't appear to leak any oil while running but it will drip a few minutes after it is shut off which I would like to try and cure. TIA for any info.

Congratulations on your repair. Your original disappointment was probably because of unseated rings.

How much oil is in the engine? To much will really cause a leak, this may be the source for the old "it's best at a half quart low" saying. As for the tube shortening, I wouldn't mess with it.

the oil drainage is enhanced by the suction created by the oil flow passing the tube on its way to the pump. Shortening it is asking for more leakage.

Just the opposite last week working on a rear main leak, found the tube cut replaced with the right length and presto little or no leak.
