Ok. So its getting very close to time to paint my project. Its not fine point but very very close. I want to paint it as close to original as possible but not settle for a show paint that wont last in the Texas sun. That means I probably dont want to use Laquer. Whats the next closest to original? I keep hearing single stage urithane. Is that it? Most paint shops just want to do base coat / clear coat. Thats just too shiny but I know that will give me the highest quality paint job that is going to last the best. So what are you judging car guys doing?

Try tcpglobal.com they have the paint you need, and price is right.

I second that. They are also willing to talk to you about your choices if you want.

Have your PPG jobber look into a paint called Essential out of their DelFleet line.
IMHO, if you think you are wanting "very, very close" to fine-point quality of paint, you probably should steer clear of a collision-type body shop and find a restoration shop that understands the details akin to fine-point quality paint. If you were close by I could show you the differences but it is generally too many to try and list. Kinda like the difference between the cook at Waffle house vs. the cook at the 4-star restaurant. |

I know I am very happy with the Dupont Imron that was used on my Model A. Not sure what the judges would say, but I think it looks great!

Imron, thats a thought.. I've used it on a fair number of aircraft and trucks, its easy to work with, easy to make look good, and it sure is durable..
