Well Im not sure if my car originally had turn signals. When I purchased it, it came with an Autolite 9200 on the column. This must be for a 12 volt, right? Because the wires are quite small. My car is still 6 volt. I managed to get the signals to work but I have no parking lights as I remove the old wires going back to the tail lights and only have new ones running to the turn signal switch. Do I need to run another separate set of wires, one for the parking lights and one for the turn signals? How should I go about this?

You need to replace the light sockets in the parking lights to a dual filament socket.

I do have dual filament bulbs. I believe I need a better turn signal switch, any recommendations for one? And I need to find the output side of the headlight switch for the parking lights as my instrument panel bulbs aren't getting any power either.

i've mentioned this before in another thread...
i recently purchased one of these for my '41. i've found it indispensable when fixing the wiring for my instrument gauges, starter button, dashboard lighting, markers, headlights, turn signals and starter solenoid. it's plastic and about a foot wide and a foot and a half tall...just the right size. ![]() https://classiccarwiring.com/product...wiring-diagram |

Those switches were made during the 6 volt era; if the switch and wiring are in good condition it should be adequate.
Switches seem to be pretty robust (like things used to be made) and wires if bad can be replaced. It is relatively easy to determine and create your own wiring diagram with ohm meter or powered test light. Just map the connections in center, then both left and right turn positions in turn. 7 wire switch Center = Brake light switch to left & right rear Left = Brake light switch to right rear Flasher (L) to left rear & left front Pilot (P) to indicator light in switch Right = Brake light switch to left rear Flasher (L) to right rear & right front Pilot (P) to indicator light in switch |

Thank you all for the help, very appreciated. I think I've got the turn signal situation figured out but unfortunately Im having lots of trouble with my parking lights. I used a test light on my headlight switch and found the power coming in and the output side for the headlights but the other 3 terminals show zero voltage, is this right? Oh and how does that switch come out on a 49?

Not sure rich. But if there is no fuse or a way to "reset" the headlight switch then Im looking to purchase a new switch. Any recommendations on where to buy one? Shoebox-central has them...

first click out from off on the light switch is normally for parking lights. Two clicks out (all the way out) is headlights. Park lights didn't light up with the headlights.

according to the dennis carpenter site the lighting switch was identical on ford cars from '41 through '48. and then in '49 moved the regulation of the gauge light's intensity to a separate unit. the functions of the light switch knob's three positions, flush to the dashboard, pulled to first position, pulled all the way out, can vary with how people have used the output and possibly input posts on the switch. i think mine was changed from the standard setup a bit to accommodate the aftermarket turn signal indicators.
the two posts on the right side (POV from the front of car) are power input. the three on the left are output. the position of the knob controls the power to the output posts, if any. with the knob all the way in the ignition light on the dash will be lit if the ignition switch is turned on. and it IS connected to one of the output posts on the light switch. with the knob pulled to its first position, the front parking lights, rear taillights and license plate lights are turned on. with it pulled all the way out, the front parking lights are turned off and replaced with the headlights. in general, the light functions do not need the ignition switch to be turned on. the only exception is the ignition light, of course. there are five posts on the light switch. starting at the front right (POV from the front of the car) and moving counter-clockwise: 1) one wire attached to fuse box that gets power only when ignition is turned on. 2) one wire that is hot at all times. 3) two wires, one to dashboard ignition light and one to front parking lights. 4) two wires, one to instrument lights and one to tail lights. 5) one wire to floorboard headlight dimmer switch. ...simple... ![]() yes, i would recommend getting a new one, if only to test power. where it comes in, and where it goes out depending on the knobs position. then you can make your own choices as to how to connect things, which may be necessary if there is an aftermarket turn signal indicator involved. |

Your turn signals use the brake light circuit. If all the turn signals are working then the brake lights should be working. The brake light hot lead routes through the turn switch.
