California Gold Rush Country outside
of Placerville, California a few years ago

Arrow Another day in California Gold Rush Country …

The first day was spent scouting
out the property to see if
the Model T vehicles were
able to roll and if a rollback
tow truck could get in to bring
them to Placerville so I could
load them Into my trailer.

The Model T vehicles had
been in the Family for decades.
They had not started or moved
in many years.

The three daughters wanted
to move them from the property
to where their mother lived and
get them running again.

After a few hours onsite
I returned to town.
I found local tow company
with a short 4WD rollback
and set up two trips for
the following day.

The second day I was
onsite early - there was
no cell service - after a
few hours I heard a truck
in the distance …

Thank You !

The Barn T from the second floor …

The steering wheel wasn’t connected.
but the linkage was - one front
wheel was larger than the other
and both front tires were flat …

We added air and they seemed to hold
but the driver rear tire had a torn stem.

It was a challenge but we got it
loaded on the rollback deck …

Followed the rollback driver to town.

Both front tires and the driver
rear tire on the Barn T were flat.

Carefully transferred from the
rollback into my trailer.

Followed the rollback driver
to pick up the Model T
in the attached garage.

The road in from the
two lane blacktop …

Daylight was fighting us as we
loaded up the second Model T
in the garage …

Now back to town hopefully before
the sun sets to put this in my trailer
waiting with the Barn T already loaded
in the tow service yard …

Thank You !

If memory serves correct …

The property has been in the
family for three generations.

It originally was the home of
the Grandfather who raised
the Father of three daughters
and had several Model T’s
as daily drivers.

The Father continued driving
Model T’s and Model A’s as
he grew older but always
favored Model T’s a bit more.

The Father kept the property
when he got older and married.
His three daughters learned to
drive on Model T’s as they grew
up spending time at what
became The Family Cabin.

In the first video I posted
you can see the original
foundation of stone in the back
of the barn where the first
Model T was loaded up.

One of the three daughters
contacted me because their
mother had recently relocated
from this property to the
family home in Redland, CA.

Their mother wanted the Model T’s
to be with her as a reminder
of their father who had
passed away
some years earlier.

Their mother was fiercely
independent and resisted
moving back to
the family home to live
full-time but the daughters
could not take care of her
at this property.

The original cabin that their
grandfather built had been
replaced with a more
modern home when they
were younger and this was
at the base of the steps leading
up to the front door.

We arrive safely back at the tow yard
with the second Model T
The first Model T is already
in the trailer waiting
Lining up the rollback to offload
The driver rear tire will not hold
air but I might be able to change
it out before I leave …

The rollback operater lines up
with my trailer & rolls the Model T
slowly off his deck - the front tires
are two different sizes so he stops
and adjusts the front end so it will
enter my trailer straight ..

Once the Model T enters my trailer he disconnects
his winch line - I connect my winch line and
continue loading - stopping to straighten
the front end so it will be centered.

Both Model T’s are in my trailer

The driver rear tire will not hold
air - the valve stem is rotted
but I might be able to change
it out before I leave …

In the truck bed of the Barn T
was a demountable rim & tire
that held air when inflated

I carry a low profile aluminum
racing jack & tools …

I was able to get the old
demountable wheel off …

Replacement wheel and tire mounted

Now the Barn T is rolling freely on
three tires that are hold air
Steering is disconnected but
the linkage is connected so
the front wheels turn together

The rollback operator
did an excellent job

It is a tight fit but a
few hours later I am
secures for the trip to drop
off in Redland, California …

I arrive at the drop off location
a couple days later early
in the morning …

This family likes steep grades
and hills - there was supposed
to be a rollback waiting to unload
but they never showed up

I locate a rollback tow truck willing
to come out and back up the driveway

I wait in the area a few hours

When he is a few minutes away
I park in the center of the street

He maneuvers into place and
unloads the first Model T …

The Dιjΰ Vu Delivery …

A neighbor was walking by
and climbed the driveway to visit

She told me about the family as
the talented rollback driver carefully
backed up the steep driveway to
drop off the first Model T …

The first Model T is safely
placed in the driveway

Now the Barn T is transferred
from my trailer to the rollback
after airing up both front tires

With two front tires of different
sizes and the steering disconnected
it takes some finesse to get it
on the rollback …

Right past the front of
the first Model T that was
dropped off is a narrow asphalt
road to the left - that turns into
a narrow steep dirt road with
a 90 degree left turn and a
20% upgrade …

That is where the family originally
wanted both Model T’s dropped off …

Both Model T’s are now at their new home …

I hope you enjoyed the Journey!

Street view of both Model T vehicles
safely delivered - my most challenging
transport job would not have been
possible without talented rollback
operators who took great care with
these vehicles

The Family reimbursed me
for my motel stay In Placerville
and the tow truck charges
and driver tips

This extrication
and transport required
five full days for me

I did not charge them for my labor
to facilitate the extrication
required to load & unload
the Model T’s from my trailer

I still remember the time you picked up the '38 Ford Sedan in Lakeland, FL. Enjoyed our visit!

Yep! That's the one!

The '38 is still being displayed and used for parades etc in the Auburn, IN area.

Blessings,
