Is there a way to check whether a relay is 6 volt or 12 volt ? I bought a relay that's suppose to 6 volt but has no marking on it.

Good question. Does your car have a 6v or 12v system ? If you can, check with the seller of the unit. Using a completely unmarked electrical devices is a concern. Applying 12 volts would make a 6 volt relay operate but eventually harm it. Likewise a 12v relay in a 6v system may not function properly. I understand testing the internal resistance will not indicate an answer.

Thanks for the reply. He says it's 6 volt but I wonder why it is not labeled as 6 volt It's from a 1965 volkswagen that they used for a dimmer relay. Any thoughts on that.

I guess a person could use them for many set-ups. I learn something every day.
