Default 29 Briggs Fordor dash pad insulation

There is a canvas/tar insulator between the dash pad and wood cowl support that starts under the windshield and wraps around the wood cowl frame. What have people used to replace it?

Conventional friction tape works fine. The stuff used on tennis racket handles.
