Default 1955 ford Fairlane 272

Does the steel line running from the carb to the distributer vacuum have ferrels on the end of the line? If not what keeps it from leaking vacuum and not advancing the timing enough under higher RPM?

No, the line is held in place by special line fitting(s) which compresses the line end(s) -

Just give a light tug when tightened to make sure they are secure.
