Okay, never did one of these...
I have a proper spanner wrench and know I need to remove the "collar" from the tank. What I don't know: Is the collar integral of the fill tube? Any tricks to this removal process?

On my 36 pickup the collar is integral and threads into the tank neck. When the collar is tightened it compresses the lead seal at the neck's flare to prevent leakage. Once the collar is unscrewed the filler tube is easily removed.

The threads and the collar are one piece. The tube within the collar is a separate piece. Get any dirt off the end of the collar and the tube and the collar and the tank connection and spray with penetrating oil. Lots of the penetrating oil at the tube end! When you reassemble make sure there is just one lead washer and use anti-sieze on the threads make sure the collar rotates on the tube. I use a large file on the seat of the tube to make sure it is clean and flat, clean the seat in the tank also. Anti-sieze between the collar and the tube is also a good idea.
