Default Model A Issue - Odd Acceleration or Gear Climb?

A new issue arose. On slight acceleration or slow cruising, the car lurches forward as it's getting a lot of gas, and then it jumps back down (over and over).

I was in a transmission seminar, and took of the tower afterwards to see how my gears are. If I didn't align right when I put back on the tower, could the transmission do this?

Other ideas?

1930 Ford Model A Deluxe Roadster. 1932 B engine, Weber Carburetor (new fuel pump), high compression head, FSI ignition, 12 volts, headers and smitty exhaust.

Thanks,

If the transmission shifts the gears normally it can be assumed the tower was reinstalled correctly.
If you have a stock distributor put that back in and see if the problem changes.

I’m betting it’s in the Webber carb.

It is not the transmission. Try a stock distributor first.

Also try jetting the carburetor. I had to experiment with different jets to get my Weber to work well. I ended up with larger main jets in both barrels.

But I am going to bet it is in the distributor.

I once tried driving my A without a foot rest, the one next to the accelerator pedal, and it bucked like a wild horse being ridden for the first time.

Your problem is ignition and or carburetion. If you continue to drive it like that you may end up with transmission troubles. Those may be bolt on mods but to expect the engine to run properly without some tuning by an experienced mechanic would be a miracle.

The carburetor has leaked, and stained pieces around it. After I took the filter off, I can see lots of dirt and dust. I took the carb off, and I'm going to rebuild it and clean it up. Thanks and I think this is the issue.
