Default 49-54 Generator Mounting

The several 49-53 generators I’ve handled have two ¼” locating holes. The rear hole works for my setup which is a single, wide-belt on a V8. What is the front hole for? The dual, narrow-belt setup or maybe a 6-cylinder?

Amazing! No answers have been posted regarding the rather simple question I posed. it can't be that complicated, can it?

Is it possible that the 2 holes are used to accommodate the use of a 2 sheave generator pulley?

Maybe one for the car and one for the truck engine?

I use the front hole on my 1951 6 cylinder with the narrow pulley/belt.

And there you have it. It's for mounting the same generator on different applications.

And it only took 6 days.

Thanks Stan. The answer to my simple question finally emerges. There's just not very many of you 6-cyl folks around I guess.

None of my 49-53 Generators have two holes.
(I've got about 6 of them in various condition in the shed)

This may be because there was no 6 cylinder option in Canada?
