Default Bell housing bolts

239 cu in. Flathead. How do you get to the top two bolts on the bell housing?

Year and model may help.

On a shoebox Ford, put a jack under the rear of the engine and lower it a little. A long extension and a "u-joint" socket helps too. It can be kinda rough on old, hardened motor mounts, so you might as well replace then while you're in there, or else you may end up chasing "clutch problems".

Remove transmission cover and floor toe board if your 8BA is in a 40 Ford.
Be sure to put a 2x6 with jack on oil pan to support rear of engine. Do the same under the transmission to give it support so you won't break the rear transmission mount.

You may also be able to support the rear of the engine by placing boards between front wishbone and bottom of oil pan.

IIRC you have a 49-51 shoebox, on my '51 there are rubber plugs in the floor for access to those bolts. I didn't know this on my first '51 and busted my knuckles as Tubman described.
