What's the best sealant for valley pan w/cork gasket, intake manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets?

Everyone has their own personal choice. Mine is Permatex RTV. On an intake manifold, I use it only around the water passages, none on the rest. I am sure you will get a lot of other options
On valve cover gaskets, I use RTV only on the valve cover side. Nothing on the head side.

This is like asking about oil. For me, I’ll use the old Permatex #2 on the valley gasket to block. A light coat of white grease on the pan side. Big deal on the valley cover is to make sure it sits flat, and don’t over torque it. If I really need to glue something in place I use red head gasket shellac. (Politically incorrect, it still has the Indian head on the bottle). Maybe a light coat of white grease on the opposing side of the gasket if you figure on removing it (like valve covers, on the head side.)
And a slight coat of silicone (permatex brand) around the water passages on head and intake side. You’ll get plenty of opinions. |
