Default grease fittings, thread size

good morning, barn...

i am struggling to find exact information on the thread sizes of the grease nipples on the A. I have found 1/8 and 5/16, but not which standard. I assume it is NPT... but maybe it is NPT fine?

Thanks in advance...
Tom

NPT, National Pipe Thread. A lot were pressed on with a narrow taper, no threads.

Tom - I’m not familiar with NPT fine. You will sometimes see a reference to NPTF but that means National Pipe Thread fuel, which is a tapered thread that does not require sealant. Very close to NPT, but to mix you use sealant. You will sometimes see references to FPT and MPT for female and male pipe threads. Most of the threaded fittings on a Model A are 1/8 NPT female.

And as Neil notes, many are press-in although it’s not uncommon to find that they have been drilled and threaded sometime along the way. Not unusual on spindles especially.

Snyder’s sells packs of replacement fittings, both traditional and “modern” ball type, sorted out with the proper insertion base.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought they were 1/16NPT?

Fittings can be 1/4-28 straight thread. My repro shock links were metric thread when I was changing them over to standard zerks.

OK, I'll correct you. They are ⅛ NPT.

Tom - a thought. You might consider ordering fittings and having them shipped to whatever hotel you'll be staying in the UK. That way you could hand carry them back to Germany. You would have to declare them unless there is some minimum dollar exemption, but I would think that they are of low enough value that importing them would not carry significant duties if any at all. Likely less than shipping, I would imagine.
