Default Speedo Needle

How is the Speedo needle removed from a 35/36 speedometer? Is it a press fit? What's the best way remove it?

How is the Odometer knob removed? Or, is the shaft with knob removed? What's the best way to remove it?

Thanks,

1. Press fit

2.Unscrews. Lefty loosie .Right tighty.

Hay Lawson, Thanks for the reply. Lefty loosie .Right tighty. I almost forgot to remember that, I'll remember to not forget it in the future.

1. Press Fit, I thought so thanks for confirming

2. Unscrews. Lefty loosie .Right tighty. The knob and shaft turn freely lefty and righty to reset the milage counter as per design.

3. I think. Does that apply to #s 1 and 2 or just #2?

For #1 - According to Waltham Watch speedometer service bulletins: “Remove pointer by turning clockwise and lifting off.”

When I repaired the spedo for my '46 Coupe, I held the needle shaft with a small pair of needle nose pliers, on the back side of the dial face, and holding the "hub" of the needle, twisted it the right with a gentle pull, and it came off. In my unit, the dial is held on the shaft by friction fit.

Thanks Mike34 and 51woodie for the responses. I cut a slot in a washer so I could slide it between the needle and the speedo face, then used a small wedge to pop the needle off.

FYI the Odometer knob unscrewed from the shaft.

Again, thanks for the input.
