Came onto a snag. My rear door handle is in parts prior to refinishing it. I have most of the parts shown on the illustration for the handle. I am lacking the extension part 43436 but that is part of the lock and another issue. My problem is the swing gate that allows access to the lock. I have the gate 43446 and the spring 22006 but cannot for the life of me see how they fit in the handle. Any idea how this goes together or is there another piece not shown? part in black are what I am referring to. Thanks/

Does the lock cylinder extension (43436) have a internal thread on the end?

![]() You just had to bring out my reading disabilities to the forum? ... ![]() Let me ask. This is a 1956 SEDAN DELIVERY (78A) with a 2PC gate and we are discussing the lift-gate? It wasn't an ambulance or funeral car with a one piece swing door? Advancing CRS is starting to take it's toll ... ![]()

OK ...
I am finding more info but I have to go through an older MPC issue as some of this info was deleted from the FINAL ISSUE. I had 57/58 (lift gate - full door) on the brain for some reason ... ![]() Please refrain from shaving until I get back ... ![]()

Do you happen to have a 56 WSM or BODY MANUAL?
The reason being is that the ILL of the handle you showed is for a SW (59, 79) lift-gate and your having a SEDAN DELIVERY (78), the handle is on the swing door and takes another handle PN. The hardware to operate it may be different. That info was deleted from the 1949-1959 MPC. If not, I have a 55 WSM I can dig out hopefully. Last edited by KULTULZ; 03-08-2025 at 12:12 AM. I have the 56 shop manual and the 55-57 body parts catalog. The body parts catalog shows the missing part a BA 7843436, which is different from the lift gate B5A 5943436. Sooo that makes is even harder to find if at all. Just finding a lift gate handle would not do because that part is different. Oh the joys of having a odd ball to work on. Aside from all that I believe the rear door is actually off of a 54. Saying that as the license plate holder is a 54 model not a 55/56 model and the rear glass does not fit correctly. A real frankinford.

Look on the handle assy inside casting and see if there is a CASTING ID PN.
You have a 1955-57 BODY PARTS CATALOG? Last edited by KULTULZ; 03-08-2025 at 12:38 PM. |

And there are no other characters on the handle?
READ HERE - https://1955-ford.com/1955-ford-cour...-delivery.html During flashbacks of my ever creeping CRS, I vaguely remember someone wanting to change the rear door from split gate to swing door. Do you remember that thread by any chance?? |

Will take a pic tomorrow but did not see any other numbers. Do not recall changing from wagon upper/lower door to courier door.

BN is the PN PREFIX and identifies as 1952-54. The other number must be the VENDOR ID NO.

What really makes this difficult is all of 1952-1954 COURIER info was removed from the 1949-1959 MPC was removed.
You may need a 1953-1957 BODY CATALOG - |

I have that book and can find the part numbers for the lock and extension. Problem is none of those part are available any more. Do not have the original locks anymore, lost some years back in all the moving around. Still have the original door locks but those I can find. Sigh
