I know it's a dumb question but, do I need to pull the transmission when I pull the engine on my 36'coupe? It looks like the engine and transmission act as one unit with only two front engine mounts and a rear transmission mount.
I believe I would have to remove the wood floorboards, transmission cover and stick shift along with disconnecting the clutch linkage and two engine stabilizing rods. Am I getting this right? Thanks in advance. |

no, put a jack under the brans to support it. Sometimes it is easier to pull the trans with the engine when you havent had experience with pulling early v8s

Yes you can pull engine and leave trans. Yes you will need to remove floorboards and trans tunnel.
Grille can stay in. Radiator is tricky. #1 cover radiator core with heavy corrugated cardboard. Now remove fan and generator. Next radiator. Look down at the flange inside where grill and horn panels bolt together you will see a 1 1/2 -2” notch each side that where you have to jiggle the radiator feet through. Again be sure you have cardboard on front and rear of radiator core. I have done this many times on my 36. |

AND, when you put the engine back in, don't forget to install the throw-out bearing.
I did that once! |

I have pulled with and without the transmission. If you leave the transmission in place, be certain to remove the bolts that fasten the rear mount to the frame. If you put too much pressure on the transmission (read: angle of the engine upon removal) you will break the rear mount.

Contrary to popular folklore, there are lots of stupid questions. However, there seem to be many more stupid answers. The trick is knowing the difference.
