Default 30-31 open car windshield

I'm currently refreshing an older restoration of a 180-A. I find myself in need of a deluxe windshield frame. The car will not be entered in fine point judging so I'm planning on using a reproduction windshield frame. I'll buy a frame in the raw, drill the holes for the snaps and have it chrome plated. My question is "Has anyone had particularly good or bad luck with any of the currently available reproduction frames?" If so please elaborate and if you're comfortable let me know where you bought the frame (PM me is you'd prefer). Many thanks.

I got a chrome frame for my 180-A from Snyders and have had no problems. It looks and fits good. I have not drilled it yet.

Thank you Dr. I'll look into the Snyder's windshield frame.

I think I would lean more to buying the plated one.The days of getting one plated for the $350.cost difference are pretty well gone.I couldn't get one done locally for that.I got a price on plating bumper bars,$850.per bar,IF they had no pitting.

You might consider getting the necessary holes milled rather than drilled
Twist Drill is difficult on uneven surface and tends to grab and twist.

Thank you for your replies Keith and Bill. Yes, I will plunge mill versus drilling the holes. They are 5/16" as I recall. Been a while since I had to install snaps. I prefer the original type expandable snaps versus the threaded. I agree that buying the chromed windshield is likely less expansive than having it chromed myself. However, the last time I installed snaps on an already chromed windshield frame, the milling process upset the chrome adjacent to the holes for the snaps and I ended up rechroming the top of the frame. If you were installing the threaded snaps this might not be as much of a problem. Tim

I had problems finding the windshield snaps for my roadster. All suppliers were out of stock and one told me that the reason no one had them was they were made by LeBaron Bonney who is no more.

My 49A Special coupe has an aftermarket aluminum windshield frame. It looks great, in my avatar, and does not leak. It was in the car when I bought, it so I do not know the source.
