Default Progress on my 31 T/S

Been a while since I have posted anything about my 31. I painted it about 6 weeks ago. Since then I have gone through the brakes, steering, pulled the engine and checked everything. Found a bad timing gear and checked the clearances on the bearings. Had a leak in the differential, pulled it, checked it out and reinstalled. Today I got the body on the frame! Hopefully I'll get it adjusted and bolted down tomorrow. Then it will really move along!!!

Thanks for going on this little adventure with me!

Thanks! Luckily I have heat in my garage so I'll be able to work all winter. Hope to be driving it come spring!

Putting it back together always a feeling of accomplishment, still working on my 31 roadster, body work seems endless.Hope to also be behind the wheel this spring rather than under it !

I actually enjoy the bodywork and prep for paint. It seems to make it all worthwhile once you put the paint on and it shines like a new penny! Hardest thing for me is the assembly. I usually work by myself unless I have no choice, but it's a lot harder not to bump things up. Lots of towels and tape will go a long way!

Day-yum, too bad you live on the other side pf the country from me. I really do not enjoy sheet metal work, and I'm not particularly good at it either.

@jayjay- I'm not great at it either but after about a dozen or so cars in 25 years I have learned patience. That and lots of reading has gotten me where I am today. It also helped that I had a dad that grew up in the lead filler days so he knew how to work out dents that barely needed filling. I'm not as good as my dad but a few more cars and I'll be closer!

Very nice Model A. The slant window sedans really make a nice car.
I also learned lead work from my dad. I still have all my lead work tools and occasionally, I will dig them out for some job that will work better with lead than filler. There are very few of us who have knowledge of the older techniques.

I am now 86 but still do a little work in the shop.

@cwpasadena- I am about 20 years behind you, it is scary to think of all of the old school knowledge that is being lost now a days. I'm just glad to be able to carry some of it a little further.

This 31 has been very nice to work on. You can tell almost everything has belonged to this car it's entire time. The 30 Tudor I rebuilt felt like it was cobbled together from a dozen different cars. Getting excited to get it together again!

Looking good. When I restored my roadster, as I added each part to the car, the bigger the grin on my face.

Thanks! It really helped that I started with a good solid car. Wish they all could have been like this one!

Thanks! I would love to spend 20 hours a day until it was ready but life won't let me do that. Hoping when it gets warm in the spring it will be ready to roll!

Beautiful! I’ve owned several A’s over the years, but the Town Sedan was always too much for me to tackle. Good on you for a fine job!
