My '46 tonner earned it's patina by being assembled from 3 green tonners. The cab and doors were originally black from the factory and then someone painted it green. I used front fenders from a 2 ton that was also black, repainted green. The bed, rear fenders and long running boards came from a third green tonner I still have as a parts truck. That truck was green from birth. I would surmise that all 3 were ridden hard and put away wet. With a full mechanical overhaul, it's now ready to go just about anywhere. It just doesn't look it. And note my hauler we call 'The Retriever' has the rare double decker flatbed option.

Interesting topic! Well ours is not a V8 but falls in the correct year.
Our 32 dump truck may have begun its aging process as a member of a municipality? (that's our best guess, as the color Washington blue could only be on a truck that was ordered with at least one other truck). We know the last owner of the truck was a water well driller. He used the 32 as his daily driver to take water (several milk cans) and drilling pipe, carried against the passengers door, and his lunch and maybe a log book.

The patina is pretty much the same as I found it in a garage. The truck had been in service during the depression and during the war and as a work truck for 20 years. As it sat in two garages for 70 years untouched, until we bought it.

Lots of folks like the look and some still ask if it runs and are we going to paint it, The answer is that yes it runs and no it took 90 years to look like this, I am not going to spruce it up!
We have a lot of fun talking about the truck and its back story.
As is today:






We did add the new sideboards, new tires, Upgraded the seating, replaced the door glass, rebuilt the engine, added correct headlights and horn.
We left the thick layers of 80 year old grease.

My 52 Merc sat outside from the fall of 1969 until October of 2014 so the paint reflects that. Numerous little scratches and dents I know the history of. Like the dent in the original hood where a pickup truck loaded with lumber backed up and pushed in the hood and cracking the headlight ring.
The barbed wire scratches on the trunk lid from the time the brakes failed and the car rolled back against a wire fence.
The slight dent in the driver's side where a runaway International truck bumped into the side of the Merc. All part of the history of the Merc.

my 1933 3w Duncan Blue patina is under a Duncan Blue-decades-old repaint that is now peeling in eggshell thickness fist-size patches revealing the Ford app. hmmm. how to remove the repaint w/o damaging Henry's still glossy off-the-line app. Thank You!

I hope someone here can help you with that. Henry's paint was some really good stuff. Maybe somebody has a method to get it back.

My 32 B earned its patina working in a tree nursery, then back and forth trips to upstate PA hunting camps - since 1970's it's been a garage king between NJ and now Adams county PA.

My 33 BB probably started its work life for the US gov't. Inside, under the cowl there is OD green paint. It also apparently was a dump truck as it has the PTO and the rear frame ends were cut off. After that, maybe n the late 40's it was owned and used by a feed store in Gordon, Texas and painted black and hand pinstriped. It was parked in a barn there in 1951 until rescued in about 1990. I bought it shortly after that and have used it as truck since then as well as driving it to work in Dallas occasionally.

Mine has a V8 in it, but it's a '28. I bought my car from a flipper who got the car from the original owner's family. I have the original bill of sale & dealer's envelope. Original paint except the gas tank which was replaced due to being left outside. I have the original tank as well.

My Mercury got its patina from being JUST an everyday car.

My sedan must have been painted red before the 60’s, because in the later 60’s its owner, a local body shop owner, started to sand the rough edges for a repaint. Even shot a little primer here and there. But then never finished the job. Been like that ever since.

My coupe gained it in a farmyard somewhere in MN followed by several decades in field west of Minot, ND.
