Starter problem

When I tried to start the motor, The starter motor keep running. I got a new starter switch installed it and tried it again same thing. Must be something in the starter ??

No, it is in the switch. Some after market switches do not have enough spring to retract the switch. Some people will add a rubber bumper in the switch to help retract it. Another option is to add some quality silicone electrical grease that helps to keep the contacts from sticking.

The high current has a tendency to weld the contacts together.

Hello, they added a coil spring on mine between firewall and starter pedal to compensate for the poor quality repro switch, makes it little harder to push it down.

Having the starter switch stick is no fun, especially when you are out on the road. I hope you have a main shut-off switch for when it happens again.

After the first time it happened to me, I put a piece of hose under the switch to help separate the contacts. Also put di-electric grease on the contacts.

That helped, but when it did it a second time months later and taking the switch apart at a gas station, I decided to "customize" the switch.

I drilled a small hole in the side of the switch where the contacts are (see picture) and now I can stick a small screwdriver in the switch to break the contacts apart. Had to do it once and it works great. Better than taking the switch apart on the side of the road.

Not sure how that works. The starter pedal is not connected to contacts. There is an insulator in between the two. The spring would pull the pedal up, but not the contacts.

Did the starter crank the engine over? Or did the starter just spin without engaging?

starter did turn the engine over while cranking.

Starter problem cured. I did the spring thing between the firewall and the starter rod. Try it three times it works. Can't wait for the next issue to come up !! HAHa.

I still don't see how a spring on the starter pedal would help, unless your starter rod itself was sticking.

Old and new return spring was weak. the spring BETWEEN THE FLOOR BOARD AND THE ROD CONNECTED TO THE ROD KEEPS IT FROM STICKING TO THE STARTER SWICCH !

If you make a repo switch, It's just as easy to make it substantial
as is inferior. No one wants a cheap priced, crappy switch. 99% will
pay the extra cost for a good quality item.

We had this problem in the WWII Jeep starter switches that were all junk.
Only recently, good quality was available. Price went from $14.00 to $45.00.

Guess what? The $45.00 switches are now the bulk of their sales.
