Default 1949-1953 8BA inside Stand Pipe Question

I have a 1949-1953 engine. Regarding the stand pipe below the intake manifold, is it to be say an 1/8" or 1/4" inch above the top of the motor and insert a small amount into the intake or is it to be flush and just come to the top of the motor before you put the intake on? I have had two aftermarket intake manifolds where the hole that was cast is smaller than the stand pipe diameter. The first one I honed open so it would fit but I am not sure that is correct?

They normaly are above the block deck maybe 3/16" or so . I've never cheched actual height. They fit into the under side of the original intake . I alterd mine for a PCV on my slingshot intake. Tim
