Per
https://www.brattons.com/THRUST-WASH...ductinfo/8946/ three are needed. I only see two in my engine. Two are at the rear main bearing, but that's it. |

You can get by with only two. Three are commonly used, two on the flywheel side of the rear main (one of the cap, one on the block), creating a complete circle. One is used on the cap, on the front side of the rear main cap.
