My mom bought a 1955 Thunderbird over the summer. Now that driving season is coming to an end I'm going over some loose ends on it. It was rewired with what looks like an original style wiring harness but it is converted to 12 volt negative ground. When the brake pedal is pushed down the front signal lights come on solid like the brake lights.
I started looking at the junction block under the dash thinking maybe the wires are just plugged into that block wrong but I'm sort of at a loss. I also found an extra white wire with a blue tracer and an extra green wire with a white tracer, they are hot with left and right signals respectively. Should these be going to the front lights instead of whatever they are currently connected to? |

Update, I hooked the two extra wires into the blank spot in the junction box, then moved the leads that go to the front lights to those sockets and it fixed it, except that the dash indicators still come on with the brake lights. I can live with that but if someone has a schematic of how the junction block should be wired that could be helpful.

Get an electrical installation manual (the tbird parts suppliers or ebay) and that will show all the systems including the junctions.

This is from the manual.
The dash lights usually go to a tang on the headlight switch. |

Notice the terminals on the right side of the third image that are paired inside the block. These are for connecting the multiple wires for the front turn signals and dash indicator lamps. It's just a matter of connecting the matching color wires to each other thru the junction block. Last edited by dmsfrr; 11-29-2024 at 10:06 PM. |
