I understand most use the Eastwood High Temp Coating paint to give the sandblasted exhaust manifolds a raw, new look that lasts for quite a while.
Could the exhaust tubing (after bending, welding, etc) be sand blasted and the same Eastwood coating be used to give a new, raw, bare steel tubing look, that will last? Or is there something else that will work better, last longer on exhaust tubing? Thanks |

I was wanting a new, raw steel look (coating) for the exhaust tubing. You know, what a brand new exhaust system looks like before any rust. That Eastwood manifold paint makes the manifolds look like new raw cast iron. Was wondering if it would make the exhaust tubing look new also. However the tubing doesn't get as hot as the manifolds nor does it have the expansion and contraction cast iron does. Was wanting to know if anyone has used the Eastwood manifold paint on exhaust tubing? If not, what is used to get a lasting, new, raw steel, look on tubing. Thanks |

Let me try and reword my question. Has ANYONE taken ANY of these cast iron exhaust MANIFOLD coatings (Eastwood is a popular example) and successfully coated steel exhaust TUBING? Whether or not the exhaust tubing is one off custom bent, or a 1000 made for a specific motor and cassis, it is all the same tubing. I have explained that cast iron (manifolds) and (mild) steel (tailpipes and exhaust pipes) have differnt properties, expand and contract at different rates. That these High Temp manifold coatings may NOT work on exhaust tubing. Maybe, just maybe someone has expermited with these manifold coatings and found out they will work perfectly on something else. THAT is what I am trying to find out. Maybe to save me the time, $$$, hassle, to find out if will work or not. As far as using the flat black high heat powder coating process you mentioned, that is my "Plan C". You are absoulty correct in stating the toughness, long lasting, visual durable, of powder coated exhaust systems! Thanks again. |

Yes, I have used the Rustoleum High Heat Paint and Primer on the exhaust pipes at the welded joints--hasn't rusted. |

I've been using Hirsch high temp paint and it's worked pretty well. I brush it on but it can be sprayed as well for a more even finish on steel. It's lasting well on my stuff. A dark silver/gray color . It may be very similar to the Eastwood stuff.

I have used Rustoleum High Heat Primer and paint with good results. Have '55 Tbird I did the exhaust manifolds ten years ago and they look as good now as when I did them. Sandblasted first and follow the directions on the can for curing. And we drive it a lot.

I had my cast iron FENTONS "Jet Hot Coated" 40 years ago. Not cheap.
They still look like new. https://www.jet-hot.com/coatingsoverview |

Been Powder coating my exhaust for 30+ years. I've been using a semi gloss black for quite a while. My coater is a pro who does not scrimp on prep work. Looks good after years of use. Got sick of doing all the prep work to shoot some of the supposedly Hi Temp paints only to have them turn to shit after a while so I could do it all over again.

I used a product called Calyx on raw cast iron, works well. I ran out so I tried Anti sieze, which has a lot of graphite, seems to hold up and looks good, but is messy to put on if you are not careful.

accchaplin... I used Eastwood's high temp coating on our '69 Mach 1 engine exhaust components, 10 years ago, and it still looks like new.
I am very happy with it. |
