Default 1947 Cluster Gear Endplay Opinion

Hi,
Have another question to get opinions on. In my quest to help my friend swap a 40 closed drive shaft transmission to open for his 47 pu my question involves cluster Gear endplay. His best case with good thrust washers measures .019 endplay . I see Mac at Vanpelts has a .023 shim washer. Should I find a way to grind the case and aim for .005 endplay or just use case as is? Thanks for all your help.

0.010" steel shim stock cut like a washer and place between the case and the front thrust washer, cut the OD so it does not rotate. Appears the case is worn, if the case does not have flat thrust surfaces look for another case.

Hi Terry,
Yes case is worn but flat. I never thought about doing that on the front. That's a great idea that will certainly work. That will solve that problem now all I need to do is find a good main shaft as all we have is worn and Mac doesn't have any good ones too. I a lead on one. Thanks again
