Can anyone give me some information about this Lincoln OD Transmission? I believe it's 46-48?? Any useful applications?

Useful for supplying 18/26 or 19/25 gearsets!

This. More than likely, it will have the 18/26 due to it being a '46/'48. It has all the O/D parts, so an LZ guy would be interested in those pieces.

I was looking at one for a 40 coup once but it was to much hacking that I wasn't willing to do for the guy. It looked like cutting up the X member and shortening the torque tube and driveshaft would be the big things needed to use it in a ford or mercury. He sold it and we installed a Mitchel OD and never looked back. Tim

A LZ guy may want the O/D section, especially since you have the solenoid. Also offer up the shifter plate and the clutch arm. Those are LZ specific parts. Edit: Looking at it again, yours should be a '48 since it has the "spade" type of clutch arm Last edited by Tim Ayers; 03-19-2024 at 11:33 AM. |

I have one I thought about putting in my '40 also, I came to the same conclusion, too much work for the payoff. I used the gears out of it in a '49 Merc OD and I saved the tail because the BW overdrive guts look like they would possibly interchange.

Back in the day they would take the overdrive unit off the transmission and install it in the torque tube just ahead of the banjo to give you overdrive. I’ve wondered if there’s any of the old magazines with a how to article on doing this.

That long actuator rod is a rare bear. Someone will likely want that solenoid. The R10 parts for the closed drive are also valuable to Lincoln owners. Even the governor would have value.
The Lincolns were more of a unit body type car so they had more room for a long unit like that. |

I have seen one of these in a 46-8 Ford. I think more room to fabricate than the 40 and under frames.

PM me if you decide to part it out . I would buy the internals of the OD. I don't know how far you are from me but from Hannibal MO. to southern IL. would be doable for me. Tim

I installed one in a '40 several years ago.
13" out of the torque tube & driveshaft, plus a little crossmember surgery made a great combo. Mine had a 26 tooth gearset. |

That's not the correct clutch release shaft. Should have an arm not the spade end, not that that's any show stopper.
