Were the "Utes" in Australia and other countries "instead of" or in "addition" to pickup trucks?

The true "Ute" body was distinctly Australian. I say "true Ute" with reference to the one posted OR to the one in my post. "Most" Australians ALSO refer to our pick-up trucks as "Utilities" or "Ute's" |

Very interesting pictures rockfla. I did not know there were so many options. This prompts my next question. Does anyone know how sales & production compared to the different types for any given years.

Lew Bandt is the "father" of the "Aussie" Ute. I believe the dark green 34 Ute in my post "might" his Ute??? Trevor and Danny Appleyard here on the barn can give you way more details than I......BUT in the mean time, here is a link to a good read for you on the Ute.

You can say......What we here in America know at the Ranchero was born and a carry-over of the "Original Aussie Ute".

![]() This fake recreated 1934 Ford Coupe Ute is promoted as an original 1934 Ford Coupe Utility. It was made from a 1933 Ford Sedan and the design is totally different from the original. |
