I hadn’t seen any comments about this. The NOAA submersible was looking at the sunken Yorktown deep in the Pacific Ocean and found this Ford wagon. The article I read suggested that it was a “1940-41” Ford. It’s definitely a Ford flathead V8, but it didn’t seem to have the fender shape of a 1940 model. Any thoughts on this from the experts? I guess it could be a 1942 as well. I bet the admiral wished he could have removed it before the ship was sunk.

Vertical grill bars arranged in an arc and the style of the bumper guards suggest 41 to me, Not 40.

It is without a doubt a 1941 Ford station wagon. There are three pictures including a close up of the grill since the dive team was trying to read the license plate.

What I find odd, beyond the car being on the aircraft carrier, is the bright work. I though military vehicles were all drab and blacked out. This one has stainless trim.
