Would some kind soul please post a close-up photo of his Murray sedan's body number plate showing the numbers themselves? My Murray Town Sedan is missing this plate. The wood flooring had been replaced before I bought the car. Consequently, any Murray identifying numbers branded/stamped into the wood crosspieces are gone. I am replacing the missing body plate with a repo and would like guidance how the numbers were placed onto/into this plate: Painted? Stamped? Neatly and orderly painted/stamped or haphazardly like on the engine number pad?
Thanks in advance. Marshall |

Thank you, "Red". I found similar station wagon Murray tags on-line, but I am looking specifically to determine whether the 1929 Murray Town Sedan body style number (155-A) was also included, or just the "155" minus the letter. That's why it would be helpful to me if someone could post a photo of his Murray sedan's body tag, whether it be 155-A, -B, -C or -D. That will answer my question so that I can "fake" this new tag properly.
![]() So, any 155-x Murray sedan owners out there with an original body tag on the firewall? Marshall |

It looks like the prefix on the tag would be M601.

Thanks, Bob C. I think this is just what I need. Interesting that "M601" would precede the body number instead of the 155 body style designation number. 'Must have meant something to the folks at Murray, though.
Boy, I sure do miss Marco and his expertise on this site!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Marshall |

"Painted? Stamped? Neatly and orderly painted/stamped or haphazardly like on the engine number pad?"
Your question was how they were applied not about the actual body number, so I posted a sample of a body tag that I found. Briggs used their factory body number not Fords. Don't know about Murray.

Yes, thank you, "Red". Your posting and photo answered a couple nagging questions for me.
Now to find a local trophy shop that doesn't charge $5.00 per character to engrave. That could get expensive REAL fast with 3 (body designator) + 5 (chosen body number) characters to engrave on the repo plate. M. Last edited by Marshall V. Daut; 01-23-2024 at 11:00 AM. |

the plates would be stamped not engraved, that would take too long, the originals I have seen were stamped

Yes, I'll request stamping rather than engraving. Thank you.

Thanks for the offer, but we just dropped off the plate today at a local trophy shop for imprinting the number. Their $15 quote seems fair to me, although that $5.00 figure you quote sounds better. ![]() M. Last edited by Marshall V. Daut; 01-24-2024 at 11:39 PM. |
