New to the Crew
Recently purchased a '62 500XL and I love it. Bought it because my dad had one before I was born and gave to to a relative, only to have it lost in an accident. I'm new to owning a classic but I'm looking forward to learning more

Re: New to the Crew
Trying to put a picture as my avatar but not having much luck. I was able to add a couple of pictures to my album and it's public
It's a '62 XL, automatic with the 292. I don't know much about the history. Doesn't look to have been restored but probably repainted at some point. |

Re: New to the Crew
Glad Paul helped in getting a pic up here. Nice looking XL, I like the stance.
When I first seen the pic, I figured it was probably a 390, then I read your description, nothin wrong with a dressed up Y block. .

Re: New to the Crew
I'm not sold on the stance, honestly. Thinking I'd like it to sit level, not so high in the rear

Re: New to the Crew
Ya, I think Sal is right about the rear being raised from flipped shackles.

Re: New to the Crew
That’s a pretty car, I really like the interior color and design. My eyes working ok? Looks like you’re missing the gas pedal. Not that it matters, I’ve got one with a spoon in it.

Re: New to the Crew
Question - Did Ford officially offer a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 XL in the Two Door Sedan body style?

Re: New to the Crew
Good looking '62. For some reason you don't see many '61 and '62 big Fords--lots more of the '63s and '64s. My father worked at the Atlanta assembly plant when they were building them. Worth noting that '62 was the last year that Ford put the 292 Y-block in a car, although they put it in pickups through '64.

Re: New to the Crew
Yeah, I wanted a '62, not to mention I didn't want to pay '63 or '64 money. I learned that the 292 was on its way out in 1962. I've also found that, around me, it's tough to find someone comfortable with the Y-blocks
