The wooden body on my huckster is 5" wider than the mounting flanges for the 1930 coupe fenders. For the fenders to attach correctly to the running boards, I need to remove 2 1/2" from the inside edge of each. I clamped the fender to a flat surface (old door), scribed a line 2 1/2" up, and cut it off. Learned by several methods of trial and lots of error that inserting the removed flange to the remaining fender body is quite difficult. Photos show where I stand right now. The flange is spot welded (lots of spots!!) to the inside of the fender, but I haven't started any welding on the outside. I am past the point of no return for this fender, but I would like any recommendations from the audience on how to finish this, and avoid the same difficulties with the next one

I have to do the same modification to the rear fenders for my huckster too. I think the best solution is to remove the 2 1/2 inches from the middle of the fender rather than the edge. That way you lessen the problem of having two halves with different radius to weld back together.
