What are these additional controls on the floorboard of this 1914 Runabout?

Warford or a similar transmission for the shifter. The buttons could be for a starter and/or exhaust whistle and/or cutout.

I did a search for Warford and didn't find too much relating to Model T. Is Warford an overdrive?

Warford over drive, direct drive and under drive. Two speed rearend ? Photo of the underside behind the transmission and also the rear end. Then we can tell you what you have.

I finally got my Model T delivered. Yep, it has a Warford transmission and exhaust whistle. I bought it out of an estate auction in Texas. Judging from the paperwork I received, it hasn't been licensed for 25 years. More pictures and plenty of questions will be coming. I'm a Model A guy from way back and this is my first Model T.

As far as I know, Warford made two types. The less desirable is an under drive/direct drive with a neutral in between so it's a two speed. The other is a 3-speed with under drive, direct drive, and overdrive.
The modern KC Warfords are 3-speeds. The shifter on the OP's car is very near the seat. I just wonder if it has room enough to shift? |

Back might be direct. Get it running, drive it and find out!
![]() Had the 3 speed. I very seldom used overdrive, so the under/direct would be fine, and is more than likely the one I will install. Except for the maybe ratios, would be about the same as a Ruckstell at a lower cost.

If your T does not have accessory external brakes on the rear drums be very cautious driving your new car. Getting a Warford in neutral with out accessory brakes can become a life changing experience, as you loose all ability to stop the car .

No not really, but if you miss a shift and get stuck in neutral, on a hill for example, the 8 inch brakes, which are just glorified parking brakes, aren't going to do jack poo stopping you from rolling.

Thanks, I'm on the coast with no hills to speak of but I guess it would still be good to have Rocky Mountain brakes.
On another note, I pulled the floorboards and played with the shift lever. It appears that it is a 3 speed transmission. I did not see any support for the Warford Transmission that the MTFCA forum mentioned. I may need to do something about that too. These are all things that I will get around too sometime. |

If it is a 3 speed - forward right is low, straight back is direct and over left & back is O.D.
