Default '36 Grill Questions

I've been looking for an original '36 grill that is in restorable condition but haven't located one yet. I'm considering another option.
My car has a repo grill that I believe was made in Argentina. It's in good condition, but can easily be identified as a reproduction. I'm thinking if the side "wings" were painted body color as on the original deluxe cars it might look more original.

My questions are: What kind of prep is required to get paint to properly adhere to the chrome? I think it could be sprayed with the grill in place with lots of masking, but I'm sure it would be much better to remove the grill. I've never had the grill out of the car, how big of a job is it to remove?

Here's a recent picture, the side panel was not latched when I took it, the fit is actually pretty good.

There is an ad on the Early Ford V8 website for an auction coming up in early May in Wisconsin that includes some 1936 grills. The Internet address for the auction is in that ad if you are interested. Bidding is open now.

I would contact them beforehand and see if they have a service to pack and ship smaller items. I bought a few things on an online auction and for an added fee they packed and shipped the items to me. They weren’t as big as a grill, but that is certainly something UPS could deliver, not very heavy. Besides, Wisconsin is lovely this time of year. Good luck with your decision.

Hard to buy from an Auction without seeing / touching part in person.
It looks like a great 36’
I personally would leave alone and drive it .

The auction ad says "no shipping."

Blownford: you have a genuine Ford grille. That is why it fits so well.

Your 36 Ford grille looks pretty good to me. I have seen many over the years with the side panels left chrome. Leave it alone and drive it. Regards, Kevin.
